Bereft Hinges

The thunder
stole my tongue
whilst you slept,
bodies wrung
with sheet sweat.
I wondered`
if you’d dream
whilst I left,
as doors screamed
with bereft
hinges. Mean
to leave chests
void, lumbered
with the sweet
test of life,
of waking
to the bright
and baking
lonely light,
noon breaking
you. I tried
but never
was I blessed
to tether
ties when beds
are weathered
with love.
No farewell
til you wake,
hearts repel
roads that wait.
